Teaching a kitten to eat

Four week old Cougar learns how to eat "real" food.

This is how you teach a kitten to eat- in this case, it was a litter of 8 kittens. Mom was rescued from the street shortly before birthing her litter. It's very hard on mom (especially if she's undernourished) to fully provide for such a large, growing litter. These kittens continued to nurse until they were adopted at 12 weeks of age.

@ladyray713 It is half Mammalac (a kitten milk replacement formula) and half a/d wet food.

Will a kitten stop eating when it knows it has had enough? Id rather just have 1 big plate with all the food on it rather than have 5 plates for each kitten but i dont want them to over eat and end up dying if thats even possible

@darknagual Yeah, don't worry about a kitten eating too much- they need to eat a lot relative to their body weight because they are growing and developing so fast. Most kittens will nurse without help, and stop on their own, then do it again an hour or two later.

OMG you SO do not have to do that....they learn easily on their own...and should NOT be forced to wean if you are tired of the bottle just put the milk on a plate...

i tried giving my kittens pouch food but they didnt eat it so i bought canned food. i had some different types and each one of the kittens liked a different one. lol im gonna have to spend more money on cat food

this is cool. i've been trying to get my third kitten to eat but he wouldn't when i serve the food unlike his littermates. he kept bugging his mom when he's hungry.

What is this kitten eating? It doesn't look like meat. Kittens are predators not rabbits. They should eat meat!
