Introduction to Industrial Programmable Controllers with the PC45 Module from LJ Create ( http://www.ljcreate.com ).

This teaching set provides a complete introductory course in the programming and troubleshooting of industrial control applications.

Working with an industrially relevant applications trainer, learners progress at speed through a series of hands-on activities.

The teaching set also includes:
....an Allen Bradley PLC controller,
...a curriculum manual,
...sequence switch module for manual activation of PLC inputs,
...components that are to be manoeuvred through the application trainer according to their size,
...cables to interface the trainer with the PLC controller,
... a hand pump compressed air supply,
...and a ladder logic software editor.

The applications trainer is a convenient desktop system that interfaces with the PLC controller. It contains electronic sensors and electro-pneumatic actuators that are used in real industrial applications.

The curriculum manual introduces students to PLCs, ladder logic programming, latches, counters, timers, shift registers and sequencers.
In each assignment the student is asked to make and check system connections between the PLC controller and industrial application trainer.

Firstly students look at simple programs to start and stop the conveyor.
They then include timed operation of pneumatic actuators.
Using optical sensors with timers and counters students discover how to measure the width of a component.
A final task requires students to apply all their acquired skills and program the complete system to sort components based upon height and width.

The remote programming workstation contains ladder logic software that enables students to create their programmes and view input and output status remotely.

Real time visualisation of counters and timers allow students to inspect and debug programmes as they run.

When the student is happy with their programme, it can be downloaded into the memory of the PLC unit for remote control.

The PC45 package is a high quality system that, through hands-on assignments, introduces engineering students to the control of industrial processes.
