Chris, if you set it so the dies were not in contact while it is stopped, you will get more of a slapping motion, which should make it work even better.

Hi Christopher, did you build a special basement for the hammer or it is directly set on the ground? Thanks

@shokwave909 At the moment the hammer is sitting on the concrete slab in the workshop, it is only 100mm thick. It sits on some conveyor belt rubber.
I have the ground cleared for a new metalwork shed and when the concrete goes down for that I will have a double thickness section for the hammer. In the meantime there are no cracks in the floor yet. I want to get some more weight into the anvil at some stage too. Cheers Chris

Hello WildWeasel, the motor is 1.5hp single phase running 1440rpm. I bought it new as the secondhand market for single phase motors is keen. I like the extra power for clutch control, if i am slipping the clutch for lighter strokes and then put my foot down the increase in speed is immediate. Having said that i am sure it could run on 1hp perfectly well. Cheers Chris
Ps. Where are you? are you building a hammer??
