Critics are screaming "off with their heads" at Britain's Royal Mint for renderings of Kate Middleton and Prince William on a commemorative wedding coin. Some observers charge that it makes the queen-to-be look "plump," and has her royal fiancé sporting "Elvis" hair.

That's not all: UK newspapers are suggesting Middleton's visage looks like she had her lips inflated and one royal watcher compared Prince William's minted resemblance to former Vice President Al Gore.

The Daily Mail notes that while the couples official Mario Testino engagement photos were tastefully airbrushed, the coins have rendered the couple unrecognizable. Middleton looks "masculine" while her upper lip has been "plumped beyond" recognition.

The tabloid gives the mint kudos for discreetly disguising the prince's thinning hair, but complains his "Adam's apple matches the size of his nose." Ouch!

The Mirror complained that Middleton looks "chunkier and older" on the coin and said while Prince William came out handsomer than his future bride, "he has been engraved with what seems to be an Elvis Presley quiff."

Meanwhile, Majesty magazine editor, Ingrid Seward, was the most incensed. "The coin is of historical importance, to get it so wrong seems ridiculous," she told Britain's Sky News.

The special design has received approval from both Prince William and Queen Elizabeth II, the AP reports. The coins, which range in price from $16 to $2,450 depending on the metals, underwent an "rigorous approval process" before being created by an in-house design team based on images of the couple at a polo match, the mint told the wire service.

Meanwhile, Prince William and his bride-to-be have made it clear their images -- good or bad -- are not to appear on this tacky article of clothing.

And read about the garment Middleton wore when she met Prince William that already has royal artifact status.

  • The real controversy is why there are so many Youtube videos with comments blocked for Kate and William?

  • They have to make them cousin with some miracle to cover her trashy background.........piece of rubbish in palace.

  • She should be a nanny or a sales girl at tesco.............godforbid she becomes our queen.

  • who else noticed the guy watching football in the background

  • tacky

  • She looks pretty bad, well they both do. The queen looks better on our pennies than they do on that coin. And I'm pretty sure the penny is quite a bit smaller. Maybe they should have got it minted in Canada. ;)

  • The atmosphere in the United Kingdom was electrical on the big day! The Royal Family are a billion times more loved than I really thought of our nation the British!

  • @TheManSand322 They're like 15th cousins, they said that during the wedding. But they said most people are.

  • Dude, if someone put my face on a coin I wouldn't give a shit as long as people could tell it was me.

  • @seriousnews2
