After watching a few of the asian replays myself and a friend (shadowhash) noticed that alot of the japanese players had unusual inputs like plinking with 3 buttons and throwing in a mp with the os crouch tech throws. After dwelling on reasoning behind their actions and a few hours in the training lab it became clear that they were not sloppy inputs but indeed the techniques mentioned above.

Note: True double plinking is just my own adaptation.

  • Very nice video man. I'm going to try and apply this stuff to Guile. 1 question though. Can you do a true double plink with the same plink input. For example plink a MP with MP~LP twice for a true double plink or does it have to be another normal.

  • @SonicFlash122 it has to be a different normal because it takes longer than 1 frame to lift your finger off of a button and repress it

  • ok here goes:

1:can you do a Hands on video

2:any plans on doing a juri video?

  • @BruNE0DJ i use a madcatz pad so hands would be useless, and i tried using juri but she really doesn't appeal to me

  • @Uesugi90

You use a fightpad? are these techniques even practical for you or just a training demonstration?

  • @CSLFiero i double plink, the rest isn't practical for my layout

  • and in next week's episode, we learn how to play Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano sonata.

  • Don't sweat yourself guys. Plinking is top level tournament stuff.

  • with one finger, touch a button

with the head hitting the stick, plink lol

  • It's stuff like this that differenciate ordinary players from the high level, and also chores like this that turn off casual players from this game.

  • Plinking is a way to help combos that require strict timings, it lets the timing be more lenient. 1 frame = 1/60th of a second in the case of SF4 and many other 2D fighters(different videos have different frame rates I think? So the length of time of 1 frame is dependent on the video/player/game/cartoon?)

  • The "making you think I'm gonna throw you so you'll hit lp+lk which makes you stop blocking then I'll hit you with a combo/attack" is what they call "frame traps"; the act of trying to delay your lp+lk almost to the point of reacting to a throw attempt is called "delayed crouch teching". The point of delaying your lp+lk is trying to counter the "frame traps"(i.e. you sorta block a little longer in case he went for another attack instead of a throw)

  • "Crouch tech" is a way of trying to simultaneously defend against both low attacks and throws. When he connects a throw on you, you have about 0.1+ sec to input lp+lk yourself to nullify it. But doing lp+lk can in turn open you up to normal attacks if he faked the throw . For most people defense is part reaction part intuition part guesswork; 0.1+ sec is more generous than it sounds so try to half-react half-anticipate your counter-throws to avoid unnecessarily opening yourself up.

  • i aint got a clue what plinking is, whats 1 frames and 2 frames? and what does plinking do?

  • can someone explain to me, as one would a child, what does "crouch tech" mean?

  • I was thinking of doing a quasi True Plink, cr.lp and double plinking a cr.mp for my Vega to complete his cr.mp into EX FBA (I miss the combo allot). HOWEVER cr.lp cannot be plinked - so what happens then when I press these?
