  • I have a "silly question"when do you decide that the comb is to dark?I'm all for them making new comb to give them something to do but I was thinking of helping the bees stay sanitary.Does that make any sense?

  • @tappakeggaday1 Don't worry about the bees being sanitary. They are wild creatures. You just worry about the honey area in the hive. You'll cut off the combs so they will always be yellow comb.

  • Thanks for the comb tips. I am in a mess with my comb and sent you a message with some questions. I'm staring another hive this spring and will be more vigilant about keeping the comb going straight. I'm stocking up on the sale hair clips :)

  • @1artisfun If you start another hive, take a straight bar from one hive and put it in the hive that you will start with a package. This does 2 things:

    1. Stops any absconding because they have brood

    2. Keeps them fairly straight.

  • You didn't need your fancy engineer's lingo to give you away, the socks + sandals had you pegged long before the words ever came out of your mouth. BTW, I couldn't agree more about the bread knife. I started using one last year on my TB Hives and it's MUCH easier for getting in there to do some work.

  • @chuckarama451 hey, those socks and sandals were perfectly fashionable when I was in Germany I'll have you know! But my shirt, wow, gotta buy 9 volt battery packs to keep it that bright. Love it.

  • hi ,i sent u a msg about my TBH bees crossing the bars instead of length with comb. i took ur advice and squished comb back on,hair clips didnt work they cut thru comb.sadly when i got home from work yesterday afternoon they had swarmed on me and are gone . i looked and looked all around for them to no avail. they where a 3 lb pkge of Italians, any advice on this not happening to my hive again? john[RdkgRiders@live.com]thanx

  • how do you attach hair clip to bar? What do you do if the comb crosses over to the next bar (like they did in a KTBH I bought completely full) without completely wrecking things?

  • cool! lol. xD

  • Nice video. I'm beginning beekeeping this year with TBHs, and this kind of information is very useful.

btw, I'm not just saying "nice video" as a grateful noob. I'm a tech writer and real picky about video tutorials. This was well done. Thanks...

  • Thanks for the tip about jiggling the bar to get the bees to move out of the way when putting the top bars back together. I'll get my wife to give it ago when we next look in her TBH.
