now the fire unions are attacking pinnacle bank, just makes me sick. i say start looking to replace you guys slowly but surely. lazy greedy pieces of you know what!!!
6) Yeah teachers and soldiers deserve it. FF and police don't simply "deserve" it, we save for and have negotiated contracts for it. We give up some benefits to get others. Any soldier or teacher who saves the same amount and negotiates the same contracts will be able to get the same benefits.
Earning $ has nothing to do with what job is more important...if it did professional athletes and movie stars would be the most important people on the planet.
5. Do you believe that you can cut costs (with 4 on a truck) to help? If so, how much?
This is plain and simple! Like is it necessary to hire new firefighters if there are no retirees that year? Also, I brought it up earlier and you did not respond, is it necessary to have as many ff out west, since there is rarely a fire out that way. Can we close a fire station out west? Your super smart and a good cut and paster, is there anything?
1. What other professions retire at 100K a year???
2. What is the percentage of US or citizens of Omaha retire at 100K a year that only have a high school diploma???
3. What other benefits, in addition to the 100K retirement plan, do you police firemen receive that the public does not??? Such as special mortgages, etc..
4. Do you think that Omahans work hard, pay tons in taxes and should be able to trust the people who run their tax dollars?
acraig30 or fire union representative, can't tell! give us some good facts, not about the NY firemen on 9/11 and all this other bull. give us some good stuff. how many fires in omaha last year? how many firemen? how many accidents requiring firemen? you know what, please don't. just look for ways to cut costs and quit being a politician yourself!!
acraig30: thanks for the info, but is it hard to trust any of you. politicians and firefighters/police. don't know any firefighters and ALL cops i have ever met are total dicks. like i said, i believe the % of police/firefighters killed in action is VERY low. all of you ARE taking advantage of the citizens by building up as much overtime as possible and you know it. cops retiring at around 100K a year for the rest of their lives. my kids takes will be even higher, so you do affect them!!!
Let's see....simple math on firefighter and police pensions. If I invest $13000 per year (from my personal money, which I did last year) for 30 years at an average 0f 6% return annually, that comes to nearly $1.3 million. Maybe I should have a pretty good pension, since I invest so much....maybe everyone should have a private pension and not give their money to the bottomless pit of Social Security!!!
breezily45... once again you accept the whatever the media tells you without any thought. Omaha cops and firefighters have their own pension system (not Social Security). I invested $13000 of my own money into my pension last year. What do you think the average person puts away for retirement? I'll bet nowhere near what I did. Maybe I should get a decent pension since I put so much into it. Maybe you would get as much if you had the ability to have a private pension.

You talk as if FF and police are just given everything like it is welfare. Here are your answers.
1) Any profession in which the individual saves $12-25K per year for 25-30 years.
2) Almost 100% of every citizen who saves $12-25 K per year.
3) No other benefits (please let me know of any that I am not aware of, i could use some).
4) Yes, unfortunately politicians are not trustworthy.
5) Costs can surely be cut, the question is..how much safety do you give up to save how much money?
