Al Gore citing the evil Bull Connor during the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s, and trying to draw a specious correlation to those who question the climate change zealots today, is an argument that sits on very thin ice indeed. Gore's father, Albert Gore Sr., was a segregationist Democrat senator who voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 twice. Oh--and Bull Connor? He was a segregationist Democrat too.

There isn't a single thing Gore said that labeled global warming deniers as racists. He just used the success of the anti-racism movement as an example of ordinary people changing attitudes through private conversations. Al Gore Sr. wasn't a racist. He voted against the Civil Rights Act under pressure as a Senator from a southern state. Gore voted for other important civil rights legislation. His 1970 defeat was in part due to his support of civil rights.
