A load of bunkum, this is. No way in the world that China has anywhere near yet managed to develop any kind of genuine naval aviation doctrine. One outdated Russkie second-hand second-rate carrier does not make a meaningful deterrant .. in a serious conflict it'd get killed on the first day of action ...

I was on the USS Constellation as an ABH, launching planes. I do not see an old Russian rust bullet, cleaned up and sailed by a inexperienced Chinese crew is any threat to the USA but I can imagine it makes China's neighbors a bit nervous. Fact is Vietnam has pretty well whipped China's Chinas land forces each time it invaded Viet terrritory. I myself killed Chinese soldiers in Vietnam as a Rifleman.
