A short clip taken on 31 May 2007 of an organ student (not me) playing for his teacher at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels, Belgium. He's playing the 2000 Grenzing pipe organ. Allegro Vivace, 4th movement from the 1st organ symphony by Louis Vierne.

  • Please tell me this organ's console is detached and at floor level, not way up high in the nave like the case...

  • The console is up high - below the trumpet pipes that are sticking out.

  • Sorry, didn't see that is was someone studying. These days one is afraid to study in public places because the next day you could be on youtube being critisized for being a crappy organist while your just reading the notes...

  • Could you tell me what piece that is? I saw the teacher sitting with the score in the nave, but I didn't want to interrupt.

  • The way to the console is an adventure. - You walk up a very narrow spiral staircase - then are on the cross-piece of the north wave, with your back to the wall (hugging it for dear life) with a rail at about 2-1/2 feet, which could easily pummel one over it to the floor about 60 feet below - then to a 4 foot door to VERY steep and close-together stairs, a short walk on the roof of the cathedral, through another Lilliputian door over the vaulting of the side nave, arriving in this gallery.

  • @musicalwatch at this point you CANNOT exempt yourself from posting a video on how to get to the console... WE THE YOUTUBE AUDIENCE want it! :o)

  • @FrancoBU It's the Allegro Vivace from the 1st organ symphonie from L. Vierne

  • @FrancoBU @FrancoBU This piece is the Allegro Vivace, 4th movement from the 1st organ symphony by Louis Vierne.

  • I was just at this Cathedral there last week, apparently the organist refused to play until an extra railing was installed around the console, could you blame him.

  • Get the lead out. Don't post the clip until you're up to tempo

  • Vertically built organs are rather hard to keep in tune, aren't they?

  • I have to say Iv played the organ And there is no Deteched console for this organ at all. Its all there what u see. Its high up 200 foot and i think 100 to 200 steps to the console . horrible but It`s worth the wait and fear

  • SUBLIME.Tengo la suerte de poder estudiar en un Grenzing
