Georgia (Sakartvelo) is a country in the Caucasus ,situated at the juncture of Western Asia and Eastern Europe.Its population is 4.7 million.
Georgian culture evolved over thousands of years with its foundations in Iberian and Colchian civilizations, enjoyed a golden age and renaissance of classical literature, arts, philosophy, architecture and science in the 11th century.
The history of Sakartvelo/Georgia can be traced back to the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia, and it was one of the first countries to adopt Christianity as an official religion early in the 4th century.
THE FIERST EUROPEANS
Recently archaelogists have discovered the skull of a 1.8 million year old hominid at Dmanisi, in the foothills of the lesser Caucasus.This historical find provides a key link to humankind's earliest transitions between Africa and Europe.
