its onyl called the god particle cus it does something so fundamental ...it creates mass....
the particle itself is virtual in nature ...but if they create one with the energy of the collision its gonna be real and have its own mass.

I can't believe dumb ass creationists out there actually think that the LHC is going to create a black hole that will destroy our planet! That is the most retarded and uneducated idea I have ever heard! Let me tell you folks! It take much more than the LHC to create a stable miniature black hole. We are not even sure if the LHC would PRODUCE a black hole at all! And even if it does, it would evaporate in a fraction of a second due to the emission of its Hawking Radiation. So stop worrying guys!

Just like with objects on our scale, a particle with a larger rest mass will cause a bigger "bang" at a given speed, compared to a lighter one.
As you might have read already, it gets increasingly difficult to increase the speed of an object as it approaches the speed of light.
Particles that get injected into the LHC transform the vast majority of the energy they receive into mass. The TOTEM experiment tries to measure whether the diameter of the proton changes (increases?) in this process.
