The B15 Antarctic iceberg was the world's largest recorded iceberg, with an area of over 11,000 km² it was larger than the island of Jamaica. It calved from the Ross Ice Shelf in March 2000, breaking up into several pieces in 2002 and 2003.
The largest of these, B-15A, was the world's largest free-floating object—it was 122 km (76 miles) long, 27 km (17 miles) wide, and covered an area of 3,100 km² (1,200 mile², or approximately the size of Luxembourg). In November 2003, after the separation from B-15J iceberg, B-15A drifted away from Ross Island on the open waters of the Ross Sea. In December 2003 a small knife-shaped iceberg, B-15K (about 300 km²), detached itself from the main body of B-15A and started drifting northward. In 2005 prevailing currents took B-15A slowly past the Drygalski ice tongue; the collision broke off the tip of Drygalski in mid-April. Then the iceberg sailed on along the coast leaving McMurdo Sound until it ran aground off Cape Adare in Victoria Land and broke into several smaller pieces on 27--28 October 2005.

According to satellite data, extensive ice cover reduced both the area suitable for phytoplankton growth and the length of the algal growing season, causing the observed 40 percent drop in phytoplankton, which affected the entire food chain -- from krill to penguins.

  • Man made global warming or not, we do need to treat this planet better.

I hate the politics and carbon credits scam. The environment is being used by liberal politicians to get them into office and tax the shit out of you, I don't think any of them actually give a shit about the environment. But they do give you a warm fuzzy though don't they.

  • Humans do not control climate change, no chance.

  • we only control what happens to the climate.whatever we do affects the climate. therefore it changes because of our terrible doings.

  • kinda has the same shape as an aircraft carrier

  • @generatrix999 .... this is clearly the work of Skeletor

  • no matter what happens to the ice mankind will evolve to adapt to it mankind may or may not have been the cause but mankind will not roll over and die cause of ice melting we are strong willed and will find a way to deal with what ever comes our way

  • @bigcool89

Fact #1 co2 is a very minor trace gas

Fact #2 water vapor is the main green house gas making up 95% of the green house effect

Fact #3 co2 on average follows temp by 800 years

Fact # 4 temp has not increased in over a decade

Fact # 5 10,000 years ago there was a mile of ice over the northern part of the USA

Fact #6 10,000 years ago the seas were 400 feet lower

Fact # 7 the seas are not raising any faster than 100 years ago

  • Well According to the news, there is no way we are able to fix the melting glaciers in the north pole.

  • i need partners for my new business venture.. i will tow these icebergs into middle east and sell to them for their freshwater..wew!

  • @bumr055 lol! I think it is! ... and he looks totally cereal.

  • Alright at this point if you don't accept that climate change is real then there is something wrong with you. It is not some liberal conspiracy or a hoax. Fact #1 humans burn fossil fuels, fact# 2 this releases CO2, Fact#3 CO2 goes into the atmosphere, Fact# 4 CO2 traps infrared solar radiation (if it didn't then life on earth could not exist). Fact # 5 temperatures on Earth are increasing (especially in the poles) causing ice to melt. Fact#6 Ice melts . Fact#7 more water = higher sea levels

  • @N1k1mon You are correct but it's so slow and suttle that you won't see it in your life time or your childrens childrens life time. The liberal media is making it seem like it's going to happen tomorrow and the big goverment is trying to get votes and make a profit off of it.
