In this video renowned illustrator Gary Kelley walks us through a modern adaptation of an ancient subject: Clio, muse of history. Using a spontaneous approach Gary allows the piece itself to tell him the placement of his next brush strokes. Throughout this process he warmly shares his thoughts about the particular decisions he's making as well as the people and ideas that have influenced his highly successful career. This is surely a special opportunity to see a master illustrator at work and perhaps one might even imagine Clio herself is watching. ;)
@ancientcityinker I've been using valspar latex paint as primer for years and I haven't had a problem yet. it's cheaper than gesso and i find it to be a better surface for painting on.

did he say a layer of house paint? I think that can lead to paint flaking off. House paint is not made for art applications.

True, but he could at least give us a taste, or an incentive to buy.

Nice video really cool... I agree totally with you when you said "Know the rules, then you can break them"... many try to break them straight away which will result as lack of knowledge.
Peace!
