The artificial lake Kerkini is located in the northwestern part of the prefecture of Serres, Macedonia, Greece and is one of the most important wetlands in the country, protected by the Ramsar Convention and is part of the European ecologicalnetwork Natura 2000.
To the north of the lake extends the mountain Kerkini (or Belles), with an altitude of 2031 meters, which is the natural border between Greece and Bulgaria.
