Q: What is Bill C-10?

A: Bill C-10 is a long bill full of technical changes to tax laws, but tucked away is a clause that could mean government censorship. The Heritage Minister could withhold tax credits if a production was considered "contrary to public policy." Plain and Simple if the government finds your film offensive you don't get the tax credit. Canadian filmmakers need tax credit to complete a film - that's just how the entertainment industry is in Canada and we don't think the government has the right to decide what is and isn't offensive.

This will lead artists to censor themselves, for fear of losing funding and will lead production companies to make "safe" choices and not take risks on intelligent thought provoking films in fear of not receiving the tax credits. Sneaky huh?

Do you mean the U.S. where California's population is equal to our entire country? Sorry but the reality is for Canada to have it's own culture and not be entirely swallowed up by the States, Government funding is needed. The corporate world here in Canada is just not willing to give out the big money. Take away the grants and corporate Canada nor any off shoot Canadian studio is going to bother making up the difference - therefore the film will not be made. So YES it is "censorship?!?".

Wow, censorship is not allowing something to be shown. Please look at a dictionary for what censorship actually is. Just because you want to trough at taxpayer's money and the government rejects it, is not censorship. Live with the facts.

I agree, this is part of why i am an atheist, I go to a catholic school, but i try to stay away from all religious activities. The Church has brought me nothing but pain & suffering in the past.

I have to disagree with that one. I find the culture of the United States highly entertaining and pleasing to watch, but Canadian culture is the one I would rather participate in because I see it as being more civil. I would certainly like to visit the states one day and try to leave my mark there, because I just can't help but find the entire United States phenomenon fascinating.

Canada Censorship is often controlled by the Catholic Church. They have way too much pull.

For example, NO ANTI-CATHOLIC books can enter the country. The truth is censored to keep them ignorant.

I personally think this whole censoship thing that is going on is based on Bushes new world Order,People are becomeing more and more Inteligent,and beginning to speak out against governments,i think whats happenning between viacom,youtube,and sympatico,is a move to eliminate the element of free speech slowly,canada,Autralia,New Zealand,channel islands including great britain are coming together with the U.S to eliminat terrorism,and control nations,and populations,2 conserve oil for futur energy
