I used to visit the Lionel showroom
often with my brother, father and uncle.
It was great growing up in New York City
in the 50's and 60's!

My dad knew all of the cool places to take me and my cousins. You probably went to Madison Hardware store on E 23rd St. too and talked to a fellow name Harry while you stared at all of the trains and accessories and watch the trains move in the front window of the store.I still have some old Lionel catalogs from them.

Not being Politically Correct,Gilbert's American Flyer were O.K. but, they'll always be the bastard stepchild and the ugly duckling of the industry and of collectors.Think of them as the Brooklyn Dodgers and Lionel as The New York Yankees-always the bridesmaid but, never the bride. Enuff Said !!!

@attommas Hi, yes I did. My first Marklin set came from Polks in 1964. Later a friend and I raced slot cars there too. Cheers,Peter

@nerfreak01 Thanks for offering but, I'm happy with my MAGIC CARPET RIDE.Wanna come "Ride The Dragon" with us. LOL

@strafrag1 Did you also go to Polk's,which was nearby and push a lot of buttons. They had a special hobby on each floor.

Did you catch the running fat-ass fall on the tracks?
-
owning, fixing and running these trains is pretty cool. dealing with pretentious collector idiots who think that a rusted, cracked and barely able to run piece is worth 300 bucks...not so much.
-
the two dislikes must be from american flyer fans.

@nerfreak01 I was a kid in the 50s and it was a great time to live thru.
I often look back fondly at the memories of those times.
Wish we could go back.
