In keeping with my attempt to upload at least one video per week, I submit this. The first tune I learned many years ago - it's entitled Willie Coleman's. The second tune, "Wheels of the World" is another old tune. Tom Hastings, my teacher, modified the ending so that that the transition to the reel - "The Rainy Day" - would be smooth.

  • it turns out not only we know your teacher Mr. Hastings, but my daughter's dance teacher Julia Bell knows exactly who you are, I think she said she knows your sisters and you are Facebook Friends, small world..... Can you recommend a good song to play at a feis for my daughter's very 1st tin whistle competition considering she has been learning from a book and now YOU are her teacher? Thx

  • @1aalatorre In general, I would suggest not a 'particular' tune but, rather, the tune that she feels best at playing. Tunes are like steps: why perform something that is too difficult and makes you look bad when you can play something simpler that shows your skill and comfort?!?

    Tell Julia I say hello!

  • was your teacher mr Hastings also an irish dance judge? my daughter is trying to learn tin whistle from your videos to compete at a "feis" (irish dance competition) she is an irish dancer and one of her judges has the same name as your teacher, but some of these competitions also offer irish music competitions.

  • @1aalatorre Yep, the same adjudicating Mr. Hastings -- Tom Hastings -- was my music teacher. Next time you see him, give him my greetings!

  • Did you use reverb?

  • Hi, i am playing tin whistle at my school open night and was just wonderiing what type of whistle you have? :)

  • I wish I could play the tin whistle that good!!

Willie Coleman's jig I am familiar with. But I am not aware of "Wheels of the World" or "A Rainy Day". And I am having some difficulties finding the tune... And they're lovely!

    Loved it!

    Cheers!

  • @tefylobuth2 I am not stupid, but what "make" of tin whistle? Believe me, I know an awful lot about tin whistles, living in Ireland, and also qualifying for the Ulster fleadh playing them! ...

  • @tefylobuth2 Umm, well it depends. The harp would probably be the main instrument associated with Ireland, but then the fiddle (Irish violin), Tin Whistle, Bódhran, Uillean Pipes, accordions, concertinas, Irish flutes and accordions can all be found at an Irish music session. Hope this helps.

  • @Musicman1582

its the tin whistle, native instrument of the fair island of ireland...

  • What whistle is this?!

  • Reverb?

  • @RyanDunsSJ, Also, when you play there seems to be some sort of echo sound that makes it feel all the more 'irish' - is this just video editing? (i feel a little foolish asking this question)
