  • I am a ABA therapist. I am bad at gaining the kid's attention. How can I have better control on the kids, so that I can have a smooth session...... just like what you do with Lucas?

  • Most inmportant thing is to keep the REINFORCERS ( food/treats/etc) away from child until the session. make sure you deliver the reinforcer immediately after the child has completed the task.

  • This is a good session of ABA discrete trial , yes it can look a bit 'wooden' but that is ABA. Floor time is a different format altogether. I like floor-time and use it for building a relationship with the child.

  • Lucas is very cute ... and he is getting good at sorting and doing specific skills. But he looks quite anxious and there is no warm interactions between him and therapist. These kids can do more - they can relate warmly. But not if we just train them to do tasks. Check out some floortime youtubes - there is joy and social connection. And in floortime play, the kids do draw and get skills, just like a typical child develops. Parents, check it out.

  • So amazing that he asked for help with the drawing thing. So smart. Well done, mom.
