Bagpipe jigs are played by Ian Werner at the Turlock Junior High School this cool summer evening. Tunes are: "Drops of Brandy" - "Donald Cameron's Powder Horn" - "The Foxhunter" - "The Weaver". All tunes, with the exception of "Powder Horn" are in 9/8 time. Last time I checked, 9/8 jigs were also refered to as 'slip' jigs.

  • are you from sweden or do you just have a name i swedish nickname

  • no, i am not from sweden, however my father is (he was born in 1940 in stockholm, and emigrated to new york in 1957). Besides traveling to and visiting throughout most of the rest of Europe, i have been to sweden numerous times. My parents raised me deeply entrenched in scandinavian culture and cuisine and such...

  • Gush i like your technique.... you have some very sharp gracenotes.... not too fast, but just like I like them..... Nice tuned pipes, and lovely played tunes. I hope that I will find the time to become that good.... and to all of you guys...... this is the result of practice, practice, practice practice and practice...... not money, new pipes or luck...... practice......

  • VERY GOOD! I like it.

  • @chinngis83 thanks for the advise. I'm gonna take that advise too, theres a shop about an hour and a half from me that makes kilts and is a dealer for many different pipe brands like Gibson and such. They also have a pretty nice selection of practice chanters, regular and full size. I'm going to get a full size one, I have long fingers and want to learn correctly from the start. I'm self taught on drums, piano, bass guitar and recorder, but I want to learn the pipes right. thx again:)

  • @devchev78

A practice chanter is the way to start. It's great to be able to practice your fingering whenever you'd like and not have to wait for the ideal time to play the pipes. After learning the rudiments and a few tunes then it would be safe to get a set. "Goose pipes" would probably be superfluous; just go for the full set.

  • I'm a fan. I'm very interested in learning. Anyone have any pointers as to where to start? Should i get a practice chanter first then buy a set of pipes after a while? Or should i go all out, buy a set and learn that way? Just wonderin. I'm doing as much research as i can. Excellent playing man.

  • @SvenskPiper Doesn't it seem that Powder Horn is in 12/8?

The call and answer phrases seem to fit better. Try counting it's measures in 4 and see if you know what I'm talking about

  • what kinda pipes are those, chanter? reed?

  • I like this. You are awesome playing. I am hoping to at least get to the point where I can play even just one jig song. I started playing 1 1/2 years ago and I am 67. Tried competeing solos (piebr) at Loon Mt Highland Games this year. Wish more people would get interested in music like what you do. Good luck !

  • Why are they called slip jigs?

  • Beautiful!, Beautiful!

  • Fine musical piping and a pleasant machine gun birl. Nice acoustics too. This is what the pipes are all about.

  • Great playing, very enjoyable. If you don't mind me asking, what drone reeds are you using aswell as what brand of chanter reed. Great tone overall, nice balance. Keep up the great playing, look forward to more videos.
