STEREO version. Reg Owen was an English conductor and arranger who played both saxophone and piano. He was born George Owen Smith and in 1954 had his name legally changed to Reginald Owen. During WWII he played in the Bomber Command Band of the RAF, and later arranged for Ted Heath and Cyril Stapleton. He published a book, The Reg Owen Arranging Method, in 1956, and began writing film scores in 1957. A one-hit wonder, this selection reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! I've always loved this song! THANKS for the background info about this classic! Fascinating stuff! You've made my day & my week! CHEERS, mate! :-)

  • @7927jackpark Jack, could you tell me the name on that label, for the b-side tune? I've been trying to find it for years (my mom threw away all the old 45s.) >:(

  • This song came out when I was four. I used to dance to it and my father bought the 45 rpm for me. Ah, the good old days!

  • One of my all time favorite instrumentals. Made it to number one here in OKC

back in the early part of 1959 on our local top 40 radio station. Good Post.

Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA

  • I love this song. Never heard it before(and a bunch of others) until I started picking up AM 740 radio out of Toronto (I'm in Ohio) Although we are more rock & roll, my girlfriend & I love to dance to this. Yeah buddy!

  • If could choose to have a theme tune, this could be it.

  • So you're going to blow the hotel sky high, huh?!

    MARTY!!!

    Sorry, sorry.

One more word out of you...

Okay! Not another word - cross my heart!

  • I really love this song, I've been trying to find more music like it (Moonlight Serenade, In the Mood, etc.) but not doing too well - if anybody has any suggestions or knows a lot about this kind of music, I'd appreciate if you get in touch! :)

  • My copy of this record had a big error: the label for the B-side song was also on the Manhattan Spiritual side
