Actually, not sure if this counts, but there are (in the board-game) "Chickenhawk" suits, looks, well, like a giant, heavily armed and armored chicken. And then there are the "Ape" suits from the game too, looks like a giant armed gorilla.

Of course the Federation is a sorry excuse for anything. That being pointed out by ST many times, the fail government than the bugs. Here's the thing I just realized though. You never see any armored vehicles. Don't think they are mentioned in the book either but wouldn't know.
