This 2.2DTI does NOT have an electronically controlled EGR valve. These have the older vacuum controlled valve.

@noreec This is not the 2.2DTI, but the 2.2TiD, even though the base engine and 90% of the accessories are the same, SAAB-GM was years ahead in technology. This one HAS the electronic "servo" type EGR valve and not the vacuum type. However the earlier 2.2TiD did hava a vacuum type EGR valve as well.

depends on the particular car, mine never does it (even with powerbox fitted)

@viestemnogotupi Much smoke dissapeared once I had the EGR valve fixed. EGR valve helps on cold starts, as it sends hot gasses back to the intake during cold starts. However, during summertime, I'd like to know how to bypass this since it does abosolutely nothing good to the engine.

@Da9eI unfortunately it's not possible. the earlier vacuum type EGR could be isolated from the engine, but ours is electronic and once disconnected the engine goes into limp-home mode (3000rpm max.)

@viestemnogotupi Yeah, thats what I figured out. Since the EGR is shut in its "off" position, I actually planned to get another EGR valve, mybe a used from the scrap yard (salt kills cars prematurely), and put it somewhere in engine bay and connect it instad. That is, IF I can find a identical engine, the diesels seems to be quite reliable.
