Thanks, this is really helpful. Its an amazing thing that Google have developed here. It rewards good content for lower CPC in my understanding. Thanks for explaining!

Because AdWords (Google's PPC system) uses an algorithm to decide where to list your site in the hierarchy of paid ads. It used to be that whoever was willing to pay the most per click would be listed highest. Then Google decided to mix things up and rank the paid listings as well. So, the more relevant your site or target page is to the search term, the less (theoretically) they will charge you per click. OK, that's a very simplistic view of it, but hopefully it explains the concept.

I believe it would reduce the pay-per-click amount due to Google searchers visiting your site via your page rank (at the top of the list) vs clicking on your ad in the side bar.
