Korea is one of those countries that picked a somber, pompous anthem instead of a song that people like. Both Koreas, because they pretty much have the same anthem.
If you're gonna pick a pompous anthem, it should sound loud, powerful and dangerous, like the Soviet anthem.

The whole Nation had been really successful and had much economic success under Kim Il Sung, who died in 1994. So Kim Jong Il was not successing the Juche policy, replaced it through "Songun" (Military first politics) and strict isolation...before 1994 there had been no starvation or hunger there ...it all began with Kim Jong Il...thats why the whole country still loves Kim Il Sung.
Lets hope after Kim Jong Il the land can come back to its old way of strengh and prosperity.
