  • LOL. I believe the US is in a despotic state right now. Funny how videos like this are here to educate and warn people. Yet people let it slide right in.

  • Excellent and timely video. We seem to have blinded ourselves to the evils of despotism over the past 46 years. I think we are headed as far down the scale as possible -- perhaps we are about to hit rock-bottom. Every public high school student in the United States ought to see this thought-provoking production. Unfortunately -- under the guise of the "No Child Left Behind Act" -- I doubt Social Studies exists in many (if any) public institutions.

  • This is history people. Both the French and American revolution happened because the wealthy got too powerful and the rest were suffering. Never in the entire history of mankind has the centralization of power and wealth benefitted the majority of the population. Ergo Reaganomics are bullshit, tax breaks for the rich destructive and wealth distribution absolutely necessary. If you want to know what a truly free market looks like, think about the feudal ages.

  • Excellent film. One subtle point it tries to make - that many on the Right don't want you to know or think for yourself - is that despotism isn't solely a phenomenon that emerges from government but private / economic power as well. The secret to a functional democracy is the balance between the needs of the many and the wants of the few. While our government has passed some terrible laws (NDAA) they are being pushed primarily by those who stand to benefit from the national-security state.

  • @Silicondoc Looks like you rate low on the Respect Scale. Looks like you need a time out young man.

  • @ClarkieDude Yeah GWB did it, you MORON. Our despotic lib hippies now control it all, you fool. Fatso drunken rudolph the red nosed Ted Kennedy wrote your NCLB "horror". The real horror is stupid FUCKS believe what other lying idiots tell them, namely, pretend studying for an already known gov test "takes up the entire school year", and "messes up education". People with half a fucking brain know it was fucked long before and now this is just an excuse for the lib hippie shitheads.

  • @reynols1 Can you explain in 3 good condensed points why they were against democracies?

  • and that equals despotism. and how people who are different are treated, and how the poor are treated and how wealth is equally distributed. see now is when it gets gray right? this is where we are not a democracy comes in. if we where a real democracy, we would have a better distribution of wealth the rich would not control all of the media, and the poor and sick would not get treated the way they do.

  • @DEP717 straw man. i could start a party but tell me. what kind of shot would i have at being in office? see this is where the despotism comes in. in a democracy an independent can run and win. a small party canidate, but not here. 98% of the time it is the ones with the money and power that win. if you have no money, you will not go far in politics, here in america sadly. so yes i could start a new party, but it would not get far again the power is tilted too much in favor of the powerful cont.

  • @whedonfreak976 For every Fox there is an MSNBC. For every New York Post a New York Times, a Boston Herald, a National Enquirer. People have the right to speak as they wish and pick their sources as they choose. It is called living in a free society. Also I've worked as a Poll assistant helping voters & have never seen a ballot where you couldn't write in anyone you wanted alongside the other choices. If you do want to get on a ballot, get signatures and you can. Or start a party. Free country.

  • @DEP717 wrong, the media controls the news, look at fox. and no you cannot vote for whoever you want, in some areas they will not give you the option. again, a real democracy is when the people not 9 justices or the rich and powerful are in control, and you know that the media is not free, weather it is msnbc or faux. neither one is. both follow certain guidelines so please, i wish we where a real democracy. i wish. and the top 2% earn 500% more then the bottom, that is not spreading the wealth
