@spicyMcHAGGIS9green Have a read of Naked Lunch, Nova Express and the Soft Machine. Also on that other point Thomas Pynchon could be hailed as a genius...check out Gravity's rainbow..a tough read but a great book none the less.

@goodvibesallround Sorry, man. Didn't read your name at first. I have yet to read anything by Kafka. IMO, Burroughs was a junkie who wrote books. Heroin is some pretty rough stuff. A real value changer. I guess people can misconstrue genius with being obliterated. Then again, I've only read Junkie.

@spicyMcHAGGIS9green I never said Bukowski was a genius. I said he was a natural talent...similar to Hunter S Thompson. However Norman Mailer was quoted saying William S Burroughs was the only writer he knew of possessed by genius...and I think if other great writers acknowledge genius it should be accepted. Another good example would be Franz Kafka.

@goodvibesallround I don't know, man. I mean, how are we defining genius? As much as I love Buk, I can't say he's a genius. When he comes to mind, I think "free spirit". He knew exactly what he wanted outta life. He was a true free-thinker. He never let anyone tell him what to do. I'm not sold on him being a genius, though. He made a lot of poor choices, obviously. Also, personally (don't hate me for it), I'm not a fan of Burroughs.

@spicyMcHAGGIS9green You can't compare Bukowski (A Writer) to Einstein (a Physicist) there two completely different fields. A better comparison would be to compare Bukowski to say William S Burroughs. A man of truly possessed by genius.

@cfaziorun He's right. Physiologically marijuana is much better for you than alcohol. However alcohol can kill you in large doses whereas marijuana cannot. Getting back to the video Bukowski was a great writer..unschooled and raw. A true natural talent.

@assholeroundeye Genius? I don't know about that. Einstein was a genius. Bukowski was more of a drunk. He was great writer and a giver of thoughts.
And I don't mean "drunk" in a bad way. I mean in in a way that he romanticized it. That was part of his charm.
