The Indiana University School of Music has a new 2 million dollar instrument. Crews are installing a massive organ at Auer Concert Hall. But this isn't just any organ. It has four thousand pipes, weighs more than 20 tons and cost two million dollars.
@DesireeDeFete Exactly, the recit in Cavaille-Coll organs was the biggest division usually, and of a magnificent scale pipe for pipe too. I played this organ twice in June and attended three organ recitals there too... it's a gorgeous instrument!!!

@codeman2008 I know some Fisks with multiple expressive divisions! Besides. for the most part, the Swell, whcih is normally HUGE on a Cavaille col, is the only expressive division. Besides, in the TRUE French fashion, the Grand Orgue would be used antiphonally with an Choir Organ, which would be in the front of the church and be more expressive and gentle.

@mogemoets You are talking about Early Fisks. The IU Fisk is FABULOUS. Early Fisks by CB Fisk himself were built specifically so that American students who woudl not be able to go to Europe to see and play REAL baroque Organs would the finest examples of those Organs here in American. He in no way meant for the movement of Baroque Organs in America to come to fruition. It was the Organists who went awol and completely took his doings in a negative direction.

You must not know much about organ building and organs in America! Fisk is one of the great organ builders of America. Flat pedalboards have nothing to do with the sound of an organ and there's absolutely nothing wrong with them. Why do you need more than one whole expressible division in the type organ Fisk builds? You don't!
Good luck finding a Cavaille-Coll with more than one expressive division... there are none. :)

This organ is very probably going to sound just as dreadful as anything fisk ever builds. Flat pedalboards, insufficient couplers, wiggelmeister temperament, 98rank mixtures, regals, krumhorns for christ sake, and if you're luck you get ONE WHOLE EXPRESSIBLE division whether you need one or not!
sigh.
doubt me?
go play opus 99 in houston at Palmer Episcopal and hear/see for yourself!
