THiS IS THE GENRE 'AIRPLANE" (PLUS DIMINISHED BOX OFFICE RECIEPTS KILLED) ,AT LEAST UNTIL THE MID 90'S .FROM 1970 TO RELEASE OF "AIRPLANE" IN 1980 THE DISASTER FILM RULED THE THEATERS, THE GENRE WAS SO POPULAR THAT ELEMENTS FROM IT FOUND THERE WAY INTO THE THRILLERS AND COMEDIES FROM THE ERA, INCLUDING 'THE BIG BUS" A PARODY THAT PREDATED "AIRPLANE" BY 4 YEARS BUT WAS NOT AS SUCCESFUL. I TRIED TO INCLUDE ALL THE BIIGGIES PLUS THE BOMBS FROM THE ERA!...THIS VIDEO IS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY UNDER THE FAIR USE ACT. • "Airplane" was a hit largely because it parodied the movie which, for all intents and purposes, started the genre.Plus, through its three sequels,it was becoming formulaic.

Wasn't "Black Sunday" about a terrorist plot?Should that really count as a "disaster" movie?

  • @snarkus63 if you read my description, I also included films from the era that had disaster movie elements in them, like "Black Sunday", which was promoted at the time like a disaster movie because of the ending involving the blimp at he super bowl, I also included scenes from "Silver Streak", "The Fury", "Jaggernaut" and "The Two Minute Warning" all of which had disaster movie elements thrown in!

  • I remember watching Earthquake in the theater with Sensurround. They had to move the movie to stand alone theaters because of complaints from adjacent theaters when the 20 18" Cerwin Vega subs kicked in. In some cities the safety department ordered the effect be turned down and some theaters installed safety nets because pieces of plaster falling from the roof. An earthquake movie where pieces of the theater actually crack your skull, can't get more realistic than that.

  • @hunkatiel lol...sounds like that would have been cool wish I could have seen it in a theater!

  • @hunkatiel thanks I subbed you also!

  • Great compilation of iconic movies.

  • @MADWORLD1427 Fair enough.

  • I miss this era of films! Thanks so much for putting this together and posting it. Nice editing and superb musical choices! Good job!

  • @MADWORLD1427 Yeah, it was a short lived fad that made movies that used it event films. They also used Sensurround in Midway and Rollercoaster but it was expensive to install and rent and the damage to theaters cut into the profit. It was fun while it lasted. Great channel btw, I subbed.

  • make more movies, it´s cool, I downloaded it, but don´t mix the scenes so you can distinguis films. :)
