Car computers and navigation systems are very helpful when travelling from place to place. They make it much easier to navigate, listen to music, and commincate while safely keeping your eyes on the road. Or at least they should!

Many people may not realize that your average Windows Mobile phone can make a very formidable in-car computer that supports many features that dashboard computers are barely capable of.

Pros
- Voice prompting navigation
- Live traffic
- Navigate to contacts as synced from Exchange or Outlook
- Plan trips without sitting in the car
- Voice recognition control of music library (via Artist, Album, Genre, or everything)
- Voice recognition for dialing contacts
- Text to Speech announcements of incoming caller names, text messages, emails, and appointments.
- Voice recognition can be activated from Bluetooth headset
- Download and listen to Podcasts & Video podcasts while in the car

Cons
- No voice control for setting navigation destination addresses
- Music library limited to phone's storage capacity (which is expandable in many cases)
- Adapter required to connect to car stereo

  • That's cool! But, how did you get the phone to respond to voice commands via. the speaker instead of the Bluetooth headset? The only problem I find with the Voice Command system on my phone is that it doesn't recognize my Indian accent very well. I also have to train it with custom commands for every Indian name on my contact list. I find 'Digit Dial' to be the most usable in my case.

  • Check out Start>Settings> Voice Command and then press the "Notifications" button. That gives you options for playing the Voice Command text to speech.

  • do you have to use the blue tooth for the windows voice command

  • No, you don't. You can activate it with a custom hardware button as specified in the "Buttons" control panel.

  • Windows Mobile has never BSOD. The iPhone doesn't support voice dialing, MP3 library voice navigation, voice prompting GPS navigation, voice app launching, voice controlled appointment notifications, etc. It also will not read text messages, emails, appointment reminders and incoming caller ID names to you as you drive. In order to use the iPhone for anything in the car you have to take your hands and eyes away from operating the vehicle, which can be very dangerous.

  • If your car stereo has an AUX plug you can connect the phone or for example an iPod with the AUX wire and listen to music through your car stereo. Thats why he had 2 cables. 1 AUX and 1 Charger. Hope that helps.
