This week's most awesome thing is Warren Ellis' new comic series Black Summer. It's a provocative and thoughtful take on the superhero genre and the responsibilities a vigilante takes upon himself when he chooses to dedicate his life to fighting crime.

  • I hadn't read any of Warren Ellis's stuff until I saw this video, I've now read Planetary, Nextwave and am working my way through Transmetropolitan. I'm loving his stuff, so thanks for bring it to my attention :)

  • Warren Ellis is like the Alan Moore of the 00's. He's the man. Even with his lesser known works like Jack Cross, he's fucking good.

  • I didn't hear about this one until now, thanks Spoony, I'll see if I can dredge this up outta the long boxes!

  • Cool. Haven't read this one, but if it has Warren Ellis' name on it, I'm reading it.

  • I couldn't like this enough. I love how people who get pissed about this shit are the same ones that know nothing about the fucking thing, fuck those people. I'm not a fan of any comic book writers or artist.. I can only name a few... but damn I think I'll have to find more warren ellis works.

  • wow is Spooney the only one who ever told ppl about this. I just Got the Graphic novel Yesterday. yeah Really Good Stuff. Thought Provoking , and Lots Of Porn in it Defiantly. I Mean Tom Noir's Stump..HELLO! lol

  • dude that is my favorite warren ellis book! i love the mans writing!!! so talented

  • But Superman has been faced with a mass murderer in the white house! >:) and he killed him and took over the world.

  • PORNOGRAPHY? WHEAR???!?!??!

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I loved Transmetropolitan and Nextwave. Was not even aware this was around. I was able to get my hands on the series and was not able to stop until I reached the end of seven. It was fucking brilliant. Warren Ellis rocks socks, docks, and cocks, and helluva a lot more.

  • sounds brilliant . i would actualy buy that comic.

  • sounds pretty cool might buy it no i will by it

  • Hey.. I might actually buy that comic. Sounds good.

  • ive never read a comic book in my life, wouldn't mind starting now. well said old friend

  • Transmetropolitan was pretty, pretty good. I might buy Black Summer.

My friends debate with me, but Preacher is a better comic IMO.

  • LOL!!! I will look into it. ROFL, awesome post.

  • Buy Transmetropolitan. God will thank you.

  • I don't read comic books. Good video though.

  • sounds cool, I'm gonna go to comic store and probably check out some readings!

  • I really wanna read this, Its like in Justice League where a parallel universe Lex Luthor Becomes President and Super Man kills him in the office, only the military didnt come after them they became Leaders of the world controlling everything so no crime is ever done, monitoring everything from their watch tower. Hated by all all of the world.

So I hope to find this, might be hard in New Zealand but ill have a look around and see what I can find.

  • Ill try to check it out. but were is my comic store >.>

  • Warren Ellis FTW!!! :D

  • Great video, I'll check it out.

  • think I'll wait for it to be available in graphic novel, but I love the idea of how evil and good conflict and how it's hard to see what's good and what's evil. Certainly sounds like something I'd be interested in reading.

  • looks good, but I'm hesistant to buy anything drawn by Juan Ryp, after he worked of Frank Miller's Robocop. I'm not sure if it was because it was a screenplay adaption, or the fault of the writer who adapted it(or even Miller himself), but the art had no flow to it.

Also I wouldn't call Spider a sociopath. He's shown to actually care for some, but is just very angry and violent.
