Turn up your volume and listen carefully to the sound as the engine cranks up , then compare the noise of the big ventilation fans at the end and you will know how loud it is .

DF11 0008 is heading the T816 Shaoqing bound Train leaving KCR Hung Hom Station . I am quite surprise to hear a DF11 running so hard here ! The amount of smoke is larger than others too .

  • One more video yet: DF11-0016 this time.

    v=irx2CfG89hU

For that video, you can hear the turbocharger whine ...... and a more powerful bass!

  • Thank you .

  • I've yet found two new videos that also illustrate hard motoring on startup of the same type of locomotive from exactly the same location. Both filmed by user calvin3137.

First this is DF11-0013. Note that the engine roar seems not to be that strong but it smokes even more of hellfire!

Now the other one featuring DF11-0017:

    youtube[dot]com[slash]watch?v=U0SQcNutalw

Both these locos are of standard design with standard headlight place.

  • Oh I see , DF11 0013 is the most "smoky" DF11 that comes to HK . The last refurbishment of DF11 0013 was in late 2005 .

  • Two yet more videos of DF11 starting up at Hung Hom station by user calvin3137.

    First there is DF11-0025: v=2lvnXtgYOOk

The clear treble part of the Dalian Locos 16V280ZJA engine sound does mime that of the ND2's Sulzer 12LDA28 engine. No wonder some visitors find that these two engines sound alike.

    So is DF11-0014: v=kGt5tSTmmtY

These two locos are also of the standard design, in which the position of the headlights on each of them is higher than that of DF11-0008 illustrated here.

  • Yeah ~ Nice experience !

  • Two months ago I was on the north end of Platform 1 at Mong Kok East Station. I happened to see a Hong Kong bound DF11 + 25Z train stopped just at the entrance of the short tunnel leading into the station waiting for the signal to proceed. As the train started up again, amazingly the locomotive went to full motoring almost immediately! As it was inside the station entrance tunnel the loco sound was damn loud and clear. Obviously the train was under delay and needed to dash to Hung Hom.

  • Thanks for you information . Welcome to comments on my other videos .

  • DF11's have a 16 cylinder 16V280ZJA Qishuyan Works, ND2's have a Romanian Electroputere Sulzer 12LDA28 engine. They have some similarities in part due to both engines have a 280mm cylinder bore (hence the power unit names).

If anyone has any ND2, ND3 film fottage or more noisy DF11 film that would be great to see.

  • Sorry , I am not sure about it , but I think DF11 doesn't have . Thank you !
