Soft tone needles make the electric recordings sound good! Cool machine! How rare are they?

@robb21572 Hi, Yes soft tone is better for your records than loud tone, but, it is also the rubber I use in the rebuild of my reproducers. It holds the mica firm but is soft enough to allow for a great sound reproduction. Regards Marcel

Yes, though most collectors feel that with a brand new steel needle (ALWAYS use a brand new needle for every play), it's negligible. And just to be safe, we generally don't play truly valuable records with an acoustic machine. The 'rule' is supposed to be, you can always play an older record on a newer machine, but never play a newer record on an older machine. The newer the record, the softer (and more susceptible to damage) its material is, as tonearms got lighter and lighter thru the years.

Does playing electrically recorded disks with a horn gramophone damage the records at all?

This instrument plays impressively well for its simply designed set-up....esp. since you're playing an electrically recorded disc with a sound-box devised to play horn records. FIVE STARS!
