This is me trying to play Summertime, a classical jazz tune composed by George Gershwin (and made famous by Miles Davis) on a home made french horn. I didn't have the score for thi song, so I tried it from memory. The key of this "instrument" is B. Have fun.

  • That actually sounds like a French horn. Not a good one, like a Conn, but good enough to tell its a horn. More like a flugle horn in a way. Good job man, I'm jealous. (:

  • @BaileyMGP Thanks for your time and the positive feedback. Actually, if it barely sounded like a Conn, I would never thought about buying a real Conn! LOL

I guess it sounds good just because I'm using a real horn mouthpiece.

  • george gershwin is a very respected american composer he was the first person to combine the only american art form (jazz) with classical music

  • @cadesfunny to me, he's the greatest american composer. simple like that.

  • gahhh! i want one!! how did you make it??

  • @notcrunkzombie In the very end of the video there's some instructions. Actually, there's no big deal. Just a real mouthpiece, a hose and the "bell" (in this case, a half Coke bottle). The key depends on the hose size (length and diameter).

  • @BrokenBluEyes I "tried" to play the for 2 years, but I quit. It's a very hard instrument and you need a good daily practice time to get better. Now I am a tuba player and, since I am a bassist with 12 years of playing, the tuba became easier than the french horn.

  • @cadesfunny I would say: never compare any home made instrument to a real one. I hope you figured it out before leaving you positive comment...

  • do not compare that piece of shit to a french horn!

  • @cornbagel With a trumpet mouthpice you can do the root note, a 5th and the 8th (like C, G, C'). With a french horn mouthpice you can reach some other notes, but it will depend on your embouchure skills. Actually it's pretty hard to get some notes, but you can play 4 ou 5 different notes (with a good entonation) with a french horn mouthpiece.

  • Wow, this is very impressive and very interesting! I am going to make one myself now, and I was wondering if I should buy a trumpet mouthpiece or a french horn mouthpiece. What do you think?
