I've watched my beautiful country strangulated by greed, indifference and recession until I'd forgotten what my grandfather fought for. Rich and self-important for too long, we mocked and belittled our artists, starved them of funds and made them dispensable. Now, bereft of pride, slapped back down to reality, we find them still here singing songs that remind us of who we are and why we should be proud to be Irish.
