Khan and wife Reena did the rare thing of filing for a divorce recently, while one of Hollywood's hottest couples has an achievement of three years of happy, married life.

In Bollywood, divorce is a dirty word. And a marriage is known to have the most sobering effect, even on the supposedly incorrigible.

Bollywood beefcake, Akshay Kumar, made as much news for his string of affairs as for his action stunts, before he settled down with Twinkle Khanna. Two years and a baby later, the couple are a picture of marital harmony. Pooja Bhatt's shocking quote-a-minute and dating details are a thing of past, now that she has married.

Superstar status and reported affairs don't fling a challenge either. Take Hrithik Roshan, married to Suzanne Khan for nearly three years, whose name is often mentioned in the same breath as Kareena Kapoor's. Or Shah Rukh Khan, whose children are as much the focus of media attention as speculation about his sexuality.

The bliss is flawless, when the star is a woman. Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla are the perfect examples of star wives, as Ajay Devgan and Anil Kapoor are of ideal celebrity husbands.

Bollywood marriages are known to stay together even in the extreme case of a spouse marrying someone else. Hema Malini chose to become Dharmendra's second wife, while Sridevi did not wait for Boney Kapoor's divorce to come through to marry him.

Even in a brave, new Bollywood, a Rajesh Khanna, Dimple Kapadia split is still considered rare. Rarer, if you contrast with Hollywood.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck may have just handed the 'celebrity wedding of the year' status to Karisma on a platter, after postponing their nuptials.

The Latino bombshell's last and second marriage to Chris Judd lasted 11 months, ending in a divorce in 2002. The same year, Angelina Jolie divorced Billy Bob Thornton, after two years of marriage, during which the two were reported to wear vials of each other's blood. It was her second divorce and his fifth.
