Yeah, great adaptation and a great cast. I, too, saw this when I was in elementary school and became a big fan from the start. I ended up picking up a paperback of the movie script that was released as a novelization of the film. I know I read it at least three-four times. Great score from composer Gil Melle as well.

The first time I saw this I was nine years old. I thought Michael Sarrazin was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. After all this time my opinion hasn't changed. He will be missed. My heart goes out to his family.
