Dr Zine's research focuses on the intersections of race, religion, gender, and identity. She has examined this nexus through ethnographic research in the area of education and in Muslim women's studies. She has co-authored three books in the field of anti-racism education and has published articles in the journals Anthropology and Education Quarterly, Race, Ethnicity and Education, Equity and Excellence in Education, Muslim World Journal of Human Rights, and Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion. She is presently co-editing a special issue of the journal Intercultural Education that deals with literary and cultural representations of Muslim women and the pedagogic possibilities opened up by readings which are transnational, feminist, and anti-colonial. Her current area of research focuses on Canadian Muslim youth and the politics of identity post 9/11.
