@klwewf The common reason is ownership rights! It wasn't the first time that The Big Three Networks tried to milk the cinematic cow to create TV shows. When they work ("M*A*S*H*" and "The Odd Couple") they're great! When they don't ("Semi-Tough," "Mother, Jugs & Speed" and "Stir Crazy") PEE-YEW!

@VaultMasterDBT Okay.

(cont'd) Speaking of which, two of Eileen Brennan's kids on A New Kind of Family were played by none other than Rob Lowe, and...Gimme A Break's Lauri Hendler! Thus, Telma and Lauri have starred on two programs together.
-
Actually, Telma's first regular series was the Tony Orlando & Dawn variety show, which aired from 1974 to 1976. Her first regular acting role in a non-variety-based TV series was in the short-lived A New Kind of Family (ABC, 1979-80). She and Janet Jackson were added to that show's cast only a month before its January 1980 cancellation, as a mother and daughter who became housemates of Eileen Brennan and her family.

The Love Boat Mermaid on the bottom row, far right is Teri Hatcher of "Desperate Housewives." :)

What kind of evil forces conspired to assemble Mr. and Mrs. C., Sheriff Taylor and Andy Warhol for an episode of "The Love Boat"???
Would'nt a cool episode for the LOVE BOAT be if they had to deal with somali pirates!

In 20 years, will today's shows look as bad as these shows look today?
