I have always dreaded the day that I would awake to find my Mr Beebs gone. After such a long hard fight I could only offer him one last kindness and that was to end his suffering. The mass inside his abdomen was depleting his blood supply and he had gone white in the gums and mouth and was too weary to lift his head. He began vomiting up bile with agonized wrenching. The ultra sound confirmed that his labored breathing meant he was fighting for every breath with so little blood or oxygen. I held his face in my hands and spoke softly to him , reassured him that I was there and the pain would soon be gone. Mine has just begun. Its not every dog who can bring smiles and laughter, even comfort to aids patients, or frail elderly. Veterans without limbs. Families without loved ones on Sept 12th 2001 who buried their sorrow in his neck and held him tight as he absorbed their pain. Its not every dog that can calm a child with cancer or bring recollection back into the eyes of an Alzheimer patient. He sat on their beds, laid by their sides and delivered his magic. He touched hundreds if not thousands of people over his short lifetime. Yesterday he looked at me while he labored for breath and with the final injection, a beautiful chapter in our lives came to an end. God wanted him back my angel with fur. I know in time I will feel less loss and pain...but not today. Today I am missing my bubs, my Mr Beebs...my friend, and a longtime part of my family. Mr Beebs changed my life and my mission jn life. He made me a better person.
Sydney,Tim and I will endure the emptiness until the day when we will join him .
The saying goes "the cup that holds your deepest joy holds your deepest sorrow."

  • I know exactly what you are going through. We lost our golden retriever of 15 years to cancer. Yet while he was fighting his own battle he was comforting young children at their bedside who were fighting themselves. He gave so much love no conditions. And he lived his life with such spirit, it was hard watching him become sicker and sicker, and to show our true love we too ended his suffering. RIP

  • omg this is so sad, you are good people

    RIP Mr Beebs

  • Our old Chow Chow, Boo, did not put us through the pain of putting him to sleep. He was 16 (which is pretty good for his breed) and he could barely walk across the room. He had had a long, happy life, but had also fought cancer and arthritis. In his final days, he even refused treats. My mother, who had had him since he was born, was planning to euthanize him, but, almost like a gift, died peacefully a week before, on Mother's Day.

  • wow.

It's been a few years since you lost Mr. Beebs. I lost my cat to cancer, my female sheltie to a car accident and my male sheltie to a heart attack at age 15 and a half.

after that I told me wife no more pets. I cannot go through this again.

Today we have a 10 year old Golden retriever, a 3 year old rescued jack russel mix. one bird (Sun Conure) two fish (an Oscar and a Plecko) and a new addition ... a rescured cat. Cannot live with out them I guess. what about you guys?

  • its exactly touching stories like this that upset me when people say that a pet is not family.. more often than not they are so much MORE than family. They are your best most trusted friend. They are your most interesting teacher. They are your most loved of anything in this world. I hope you & urs are doing well, I see its been a year now since your loss of Mr. Beebs... :'(

  • R.I.P. Mr. BEEBS and may God bless you !!!

  • it's sad when they go.

  • I am so sorry you lost your beloved pet, they leave pawprints on our hearts, don't they?

Think of Mr. Beebs and he will never be gone!
