@Icannottolerateit Why couldn't it be something as simple as "because you have faith in Christ, you can have faith in yourself because that faith is thus reciprocated via Christ working through you."
what a shame that Rob does not mention that everything he says is actually RAY VANDER LAAN's material which is available free of charge at Ray's website. Rob is simply doing a scaled down lesson of stuff that Ray spends several hours teaching on. The "FRIEND" Rob mentions who went to jewish seminary and didn't have scripture memorized is Ray Vander Laan himself.
Come on bro, if you're gonna borrow someone else's material, at least have the courtesy to mention him....borderline plagiarism.
@Icannottolerateit, Rob Bell is not a prophet. He's a preacher. Prophets predict. They don't preach. As for "having faith in yourself".....This concept has been going on for a long time. Anyone ever hear the phrase, "God helps those, who help themselves?"
Is it really that God has faith in me? or is it, that God has faith in what He can do with me? What I'm saying is that, I'm a sinner, and my nature is a fallen one. Could it be that Peter lost focus of Jesus. Sorry for my grammar. English is my second language, I'm still learning.
(to the comments below) Assuming that you're both Christians, I find it hard to believe that two people who believe in the same thing are arguing over which 'prophet' has a better understanding of the Bible and how God sees his disciples. At the end of the day, it's about God, not about who understands his word better. Jeez...
Wow...talk about adding where there isn't something. That's dangerous stuff, mate. If I remember correctly Jesus only cursed the religous elites and a fig tree. Just cause there is a blessing doesn't mean there is a curse attached to it.
@LewDaCrys We have gone 2,000 years without a prophet that had anywhere near the level of Rob Bell's understanding on this issue. Who knew Charles Spurgeon, John Wesley, Walter Hilton, Thomas Manton, Richard Baxter, Martin Luther, Matthew Henry, Watchman Nee and countless others have been so wrong about this "Having faith in yourself" business?
Wow, the level of conceit is staggering. To actually believe you are the first to understand something of this nature takes a boatload of pride.

@frithar Could be because due to the inaccuracy in the Roman calendar, the birth of Jesus is dated at around 4 BCE.

@hakman8 What is preaching, if not retelling what has been told already? Bell is a compelling speaker as well as a compelling thinker.

~8:40 Wonder why he refs BCE instead of BC?
