Doug Luberts' Editing Reel for 'Leather and Iron' (2002)
Before there was 'Sons of Anarchy' there was Leather and Iron' ...
Director James Archer encountered so much laughter on the set of this homage to Biker Genre flicks of the '50s and '60s, that he would post a sign on the set reading, "This is not a comedy, people...", a sentiment he would later echo in Post Production.
Pay homage it does...With over-the-top dialog and acting, real outlaw bikers in the cast, stripper bars, and all the kind of cheesy exploitation you'd expect to find in one of the old biker flicks of the Drive-In Era.
This was my first Feature Film experience...As an editor or anything else, and James was a challenge as a director.
What you see here is the reel from the first Online edit session...with temp music tracks and no VFX or Digital Intermediate work. The film, which was technically a Digital Feature, was run through a Film Look process before release.
The original 2-hour+ version won an Independent Achievement Award at the 2002 NY Film and Video Festival.
A 90-minute version of the movie was later released direct-to-DVD as "Screaming Metal", and you can actually buy it on Amazon.com!

@IAmKingBonzo The Producer/Director, the late James Archer, raised about $500k for this film from local friends and investors in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. He made a Digital Feature that looked like it cost quite a bite more, by calling in a lot of favors from friends he had networked with in the area. It was a remarkable achievement getting this made!
