Video footage of a flash flood that struck Ambler on September 8, 2011 in the wee hours of the morning. That is my car submerged in the parking lot :( Part of the Wissahickon had overflowed, causing massive flooding in the area, particularly North Spring Garden Street (inbetween Butler and Race Streets), which is where this was filmed. Video footage by Brandon Ross.

  • Also I heard Orange Street was very bad. Some of those people actually had to get their homes condemned.

  • did all of that water come down the crick behind sunray and the crick through ambler park? did it rain super heavy up across bethlehem pike ... it's hard to imagine how that much water could be up this high... the bottom of race street must be completely submerged.. was it?

  • @eddiethebrush This is part of the Wissahickon that runs sort of parallel to Butler Ave behind the houses. Right here is where the drainoff tunnel goes towards the reservoir behind the McDonalds. Actually, last week, during Hurricane Irene, a young man rough housing back there got sucked in and down the tunnel several blocks to McDonalds. Luckily he didn't drown. And yes, Race Street was pretty badly hit as well. Maple Ave was the worst though from the reports I've heard.

  • I heard Denny's Electric had heavy flood damage. I hope the town recovers quickly.

  • @hop208 If you look to the left in the beginning of the video, you can see the Denny's lot to the left of my car, in the background.

  • Wow, what is the cross street? I can't picture this much flooding could happen on n. Spring Garden....crazy

  • @jamericatv

So this is just before you hit Race Street

  • I live in ambler and I know where that is, there's still tons of thick mud covering the sidewalks and roads right near the firehouse, the barber shop near it is still cleaning up as is the auto body shop near fireside, saw them pumping out a lot of water today. My father couldn't even make it to work that day.

  • That. Sucks. Wow.... Hope everyone is safe over there.

  • woah..and i thought my area had it bad :O stay safe!!

  • @LynnetteShelley That stinks!

  • @hop208 Yeah this parking lot was just before the lot at Denny's. My husband's car had been parked there overnight and he was able to move the car before his car got too badly flooded. Mine had it's engine under water already by the time I got out to try and move it.
