Michigan State Senator Irma Clark-Coleman (D-Detroit) responds to the Governor's 2008 State of the State address:
"I am very pleased with Governor Granholm's message this evening. It is a pragmatic plan of action that I believe will set the stage for Michigan's recovery. Help for financially struggling residents, especially for homeowners threatened by foreclosure; further emphasis on education; and business building incentives will be a springboard to job creation and economic recovery.
But I am particularly enthusiastic about her recommendations regarding my bill, SB 162, regarding mandatory kindergarten. We must take action to assure that we maximize learning opportunities for the next generation. And mandatory kindergarten is the place to start. Every child who attends full-day kindergarten benefits from the extended learning hours and the consistent curriculum. This is an initiative that can positively impact Michigan's future and I look forward to full cooperation from ALL my colleagues on this crucial educational issue."
