Here we have another shot of Maisie, a Holstein-Friesian breed of dairy cattle originating in North Holland and Friesland. Commonly called Holsteins in the United States, these large cattle with sharply defined black and white spotted markings are believed to have been bred for their dairy qualities for two thousand years. They produce a high yield of milk which has a low butterfat content. Maisie lives at Park Farm, Ramsbottom, in Lancashire (UK), and here she is looking very relaxed in the top field whilst eating her greens on a mild but windy day on the hills surrounding Ramsbottom. The date was Sunday 26th August 2007.
do you have to feed it grain too? or is grass enough

Unsure if the farmer supplements the cows with grain but grass-fed cows are much happier and also no pathogens in the milk. When you take them off grass and feed them a manmade diet then this is the problem and then you need to pasteurise the milk as its full of pathogens. So support your local dairy farmer and drink the raw milk is the answer but grass-fed is essential.

Hi ghcghc, not sure on that one. The farmer is supposed to be giving me more info and if this happens I will update my description that accompanies the image. I have four 'maisie' files so dont forget to watch them all. Thanks for looking and making a comment. John Wantling, Rochdale
