Mastering - Just Another Day 01 - Tube Guy

Youtube has a warm, professional sound because it has "tube" in it.

Anybody else appreciate the irony here?
This little video appears to have been made by a mastering engineer lamenting the erosion of his livelihood by unskilled, uneducated hacks who think they can do his job using some free software that doesn't require his skill set. In order to convey that message, he made a short "film" by himself, using some free software that doesn't require a filmmaker's skill set. The result is the same: Moderately entertaining piece of poorly-constructed media.

@vallobeats Are you referring to me (the guy with the analog mastering facility with 1/4" and 1/2" tape stacks) or the guy I was making fun of in the video who thinks tubes are responsible for warm sound...?
-
@AndPlus He's making fun of the dudes that think they're teh proz because they claim tubes have a 'warm and professional' sound. Tech improves, digital is an improvement.

@justinulysses very nice analogy hahha
-
3:07, am i the only one who sees the otari tape machine? haha
-
@justinulysses nah its funny dude

I just realized that YOU posted this video!! hahahahahahhaa This was what I was watching before the Massive Mastering video, a friend sent this to me. Hilarious video. "pac and biggie smalls texted me from the grave" hahahaha

@vallobeats Well I obviously will never use it EITHER. Why the fuck would I ? Who in the world uses tape in 2011 ?????? I mean REALLY ? Biggest names in pop, rock, jazz etc are recording into DAW's but they process signal through analog gear. So don't call yourself a "real engineer" since biggest studios in the world (and I guess you're not bigger than their producers) are having tape machines just in case they want some effect and they record in a DAW.
-
WOW you've obviously never used analog gear before or a 2 inch tape machine. Go back to cubase and leave the analog gear to real engineers.

these videos are hilarious, i swear i have customers like this everyday

@johnscrip His tubes got in the way.
So what's the answer? Don't bother trying to record your own music at home? Everyone has to learn somewhere.
