There are accompanying slides with this lecture. I bounced around ideas in my head and tried several before I decided the best way to integrate them is simply uploading the picture files with time indexes, and allow you to scroll through them at your will in a picture viewer. I considered using powerpoint, but powerpoint likes to use the full screen. I didn't want to insert the images into the video because that would interrupt the flow. I thought about creating an animated gif and editing the timings to match when the slides change, but I realised it would become a hassle if you wanted to pause. Uploading the images and adding the timings at the bottom of each one seemed like the best way in the end, but if you disagree I would appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

Background.
Hello everyone, and welcome to my very first video upload! This is a video of a lecture I attended with a friend at the "Royal Society", the National Acedemy of Science for the UK. Founded in 1660, the Royal Society's purpose is to promote and advance the understanding of science, technology and engineering worldwide. Many eminent scientists have been elected as Fellows of the Society including Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, Ernest Rutherford, Albert Einstein, Dorothy Hodgkin and Stephen Hawking.

I had the privalege during my degree in Molecular Cell Biology at University College London to attend lectures by Steve Jones (no relation to the "Sex Pistols" guitarist ;) ) He lectured me in Genetics. Many science lecturers at top universities are only interested in research and consider educating young minds a bore, but this was/is not the case for Steve Jones. He put 100% into all his lectures, and it was not uncommon to see him exhausted and sweating by the conclusion! I remember approaching him just after one of his lectures had finished to ask him to sign my book of his, and as I got near him all my words left me. He had worked up a full sweat, he gave a great sigh, and then looked at me and said "Hello". My jaw just hung open, I didn't know what to say. He saw the book in my hand, took it off me (while making various witty comments I don't remember but seemed impressive at the time), signed it for me, and gave it back. He must have thought "What a waste" as my entire vocabulary seemed to only consist of "Yes please" and "Thank you"!
His lecture here is more reserved than most of his, I think because he is lecturing at the Royal Society as opposed to undergraduates at his university. It is nevertheless a facinating lecture, and if you have an interest in evolution or genetics you should definitely see this through to the end.
A NOTE TO CREATIONISTS - You are welcome to watch this, and I really hope that you do, but my advice frankly is don't bother. It covers a lot of stuff that you have been avoiding your entire lives. It involves science (at an accessible level), and you'll just end up getting bored after 2 mins and switching it off. Understand though that when you do this that this is science, built on a foundation of learned understanding through generation after generation of great people dedicating their lives to gradually uncover the mysteries of life piece by piece, and you are ignoring it. Everyone is raised with a knowlege of the bible or their respective religion - it is a shame the same can't be said for science. Even most people who accept evolution as fact don't really understand it, they just accept it as something which clever people have proven through verifiable means. I understand evolution to a degree which is above most people's understanding, but you can never know everything, and indeed we are a long way from knowing everything. Science is complicated, and if indeed we are unravelling God's method, would you expect it to be simple? Wake up to evolution - Pope John Paul II declared the evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin as factual, and wholly compatible with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. @farouqnimer No, nothing to do with that, the slides are separate to the vid. The link to them is near the top of the description. The best way to view is to watch the video in a window with your picture viewer open, and flick through them as he goes.
