This is our 2 week old filly (unamed as of yet), learning to lead. I don't plan on putting a headstall on her.
Shes 1/4 Highland pony, 1/4 Arabian and 1/2 Quarter Horse. Her grandmother is the black/dun pony in ther rearing and spanish walk clip.

EDIT: Named her Cara, it means friend.

  • This is so cool! Great Video. Its much better to train the foal like you do from such and early age. Most people do not realise this, particularly the old school, but training like this, is exciting and fun for the foal and it avoids all the problems later on in the horses life. Its at this age horses love to learn. Its also good if the mother of the foal is nearby and watching as well. I wish more horse owners would watch these videos and learn instead of being know alls! Great Job, Happy foal!

  • @MrNativeDancer Thank you! It is so much better and so much easier done this way. You see so many babies being man handled when if given the chance they would be very happy to give pretty much anything a go in a calm curious way.

  • excellent video and fantastic positive trainings. I will share x

  • @abirdslife Thank you!!!

  • Is that the mamma behind you? Really nice horsemanship. Keep training her right and she will be such a great mare! haha cute foal!!

  • @Logandstump1287779 Yest thats mum:) Cara is over 3years old now and has grown into a lovely girl. I'll try to post a vid of the steps in starting her when I do:)

  • U did a great job with her! :D

  • Very very nice!

  • so good to see someone on youtube that actually is doing a good job. So encouraging to watch....most videos just make wonder that with all the education out there nowadays on how to communicate with horses in a way they understand and enjoy, do people really do any research or learning before they take on such a task. They really think they are doing a good job by overpowering an animal. Great going...how is the horse now.

  • this is a wonderful video So neat

  • you're doing a awesome job! keep that up! :)
