Brook’s performance comes off a little too “cutesy” sometimes, but that’s all part of her great star charisma. Just gazing upon her---those jet bangs, that frank gaze, the way she moves her neck, is visual pleasure enough!

Recently viewed this curio of a film, after years of procrastinating in getting it. Like all the Brooks cult fanatics out there, this goddess never fails to enthrall. Mate’s camera and glorious black and white lighting all seem in love with her, and Brooks for her part looks scrumptious from every angle. Once one gets over the hybrid silent / primitive sound technique, one can appreciate the early film-noir-ish / Italian Neo-realism style this European Talkie offers.
