I was just going to say that the person who made this video is stupid but I see everyone has already proved that.

By using the 'apork' satire, you are adopting a philosophical position that if you don't see it, it doesnt exist. Yes evolution is a default position because although we werent around to see it, we know it happened. We havent been around to see the orbit of pluto but we KNOW that its 200 years. We know something exists bc of reason. Its not intelligent or productive to say that we havent seen men evolve from monkeys, in addition to that being ignorant of common ancestry. Use logic and reason

Evolution is accepted based on a massive body of evidence. Comparative anatomy is just one of thousands of proofs, so nobody believes in evolution, it's accepted based on evidence. There is no need to be born into this world and think there is an invisible mover who created everything, so intelligent design shouldn't be the default position. What is left? You're even dumber than Nephy
-
It should also be obvious that the default position can not be reversed, because that would instantly lead to a contradictory worldview where you believe all religions and myths and cryptozoological existence claims that have not been conclusively debunked.
This really is just a conservative quality measure employed by people who would like to limit the amount of false beliefs they have. So it's not so much that you strongly believe the null hypothesis, it's that it's an epistemic safe spot.
-
"No opinion" can't be the default position because we must act in reality. You can claim you have no opinion all day long, but you'll go about acting as if God doesn't exist - because it is irrelevant to you. That is a demonstration of your have rejected the proposition "God exists". This does not automatically mean you stand behind the default hypothesis of nonexistence. The null hypothesis is never vindicated by the hypothesis under test failing to be justified.
-
the problem here is you are trying to disprove something, while completely contradicting yourself. How about this. Lets say the yankees play the red sox. You dont watch the game, but in the news paper, and the internet it says that the yankees won the game. Would you not believe it because you didnt witness it? All the evidence points to a yankee win. Now. Evolution has plenty of evidence. but many werent there to see the fossils. Does that mean evolution doesnt exist?
-
I guess atheism could be one of those ism exceptions
-
"claiming that something does not exist before you see the evidence" cannot happen. One must hear testimony first (which is evidence that has yet to undergo a credibility check) or there is nothing to say yes or no to.
Also, atheism is not believing there is a god or gods, not claiming there is not one. There are people like Eskimos and tribes living in the Amazon that have never heard of "God", and are atheist by default because one cannot believe in something that they have never heard of.
-
Also evolution is not a default position but it is one of the best fields in science which meets it's burden of proof. And no.. believing in evolution is not required to not believe in a supernatural being.
-
Attempts to swap the burden of proof is annoying... Not all atheists claim there is no god! I for one don't hold no gods existing as a belief. But I do not believe in any gods described to me so far. When people say "There is a god" or "there is no god" I believe neither claim. Not believing the former one is all that's required to be not a theist.
Thank goodness your credibility isn't at stake; you have none to begin with. I guess you could say it's your default position!
